JA South Africa at the WeConnect conference 2019

JASA Alumni pitch their businesses to a panel at WeConnect

On Wednesday, 20 February JASA alumni had the opportunity to pitch their business ideas to a judging panel of WeConnect South Africa members and international guests. WeConnect helps women-owned businesses succeed in global value chains by linking their members to multinational corporate buyers.

Hosted by EY in Sandton, this year’s conference was themed “Collaboration for Business Growth” and focused on better equipping female business owners with essential tools and knowledge to adapt to an ever-changing, fast-paced business world.

Eight JASA alumni pitched their business ideas competing with nine other entrepreneurs from Gauteng, Free State and the North West Provinces. Nomusa Motsope of Mzube Eats was chosen as second prize winner for her business, which produces homemade chilli and cheese sauces. Third prize was awarded to Zinhle Nkosi for her lampshades made from recycled material. Both winners were awarded a cash prize of USD1000 and USD500 respectively, to reinvest back into their businesses.
