First quarter: 77 programmes reached 3310 learners

We had a busy start to the year with most of our programmes kicking off from early February. Here is a snapshot of our first quarter:

JASA hosted workshops at the STEAM Kasi Career Expo held in Soweto in January and Mpumalanga in March. In Global Money Week in March, JASA teamed up with the Banking Association of South Africa and the Gauteng Department of Education EMS to host the More than Money Programme in a Day at the Mveledzandivho Primary School in Chaiwelo, Gauteng, and employees from HSBC joined a More than Money session for Grade 7s at Sandtonview Combined School last month.

On April 3, nine JA alumni graduated from a pilot Accelerator Programme, made possible through a partnership between Investec and the SABS Design Institute. The nine participants attended JA programmes and then went on to become winners at Investec’s Junior Innovators Competition before being enlisted onto this programme.

In terms of out-of school programmes, there are 13 Youth Enterprise Development programmes running around the country, sponsored by Mastercard, Transnet and Jet Education Services.

Thank you to everyone who supports our work and to our generous funders for this first quarter:

The regional Company of the Year, hosted by Citi, will take place in July. All school teams who are currently on Enterprise or Entrepreneurship Academy programmes are eligible to be selected as provincial team finalists, who will then compete against each other in July. To catch a glimpse of what it takes to be a winner, here is a clip from the South African team’s presentation at the JA Africa Regional Company of the Year.
