EMPOWERING THE NEXT GENERATION OF WOMEN IN STEM: JA SOUTH AFRICA HOSTS A ONE-DAY INNOVATION CAMP

Junior Achievement South Africa (JA South Africa) is excited to announce a dynamic collaboration with Johnson & Johnson to host an immersive, one-day innovation camp on Friday, 1 November 2024. This inspiring event will bring together 100 Grade 10–11 girls from schools across Gauteng in person whilst interested youth can also connect via the Junior Achievement South Africa IG page and Facebook page to explore careers in Science, Technology, Engineering, Math, Manufacturing, and Design (STEM2D).

In line with JA South Africa’s commitment to empowering young women, this innovation camp aims to give participants a unique, hands-on experience in the world of STEM. Throughout the day, students will engage in interactive workshops, problem-solving activities, and career discussions, all guided by female mentors and role models currently excelling in these fields.

“At Junior Achievement South Africa, we are passionate about breaking down barriers and creating opportunities for young South African youth to see themselves as innovators and leaders. Our collaboration with Johnson & Johnson provides a platform for these girls to expose these learners to real-world solutions with leaders of industry already in the field”, says Nelo Spies, Executive Director of JA South Africa.

At Johnson & Johnson, we are guided by Our Credo to uplift our communities and empower the next generation”, says Ahmed El Hofy, General Manager at the Janssen Pharmaceutical Companies of Johnson & Johnson in South Africa. “We are proud to collaborate with Junior Achievement South Africa to inspire young women today, ensuring they have the skills and confidence to lead in STEM. Together, we are shaping a brighter future.”

The bootcamp will emphasize how STEM2D careers can offer powerful tools for addressing everyday challenges, inspiring girls to use their ideas and creativity to shape their futures. By cultivating their interest in STEM, the event will also contribute to diversifying the future workforce in these critical sectors.
