TEAM TENACITY WINS FEDEX GLOBAL POSSIBILITIES AWARD AT JA AFRICA COY 2024 IN MAURITIUS
Junior Achievement South Africa (JA South Africa) is thrilled to celebrate Team Tenacity from Rhodesfield High School for their outstanding achievement in winning the FedEx Global Possibilities Award at the JA Africa Company of the Year (COY) 2024 competition, held from 4–6 December in Mauritius.
Competing against top student entrepreneurs from 12 African countries, Team Tenacity captivated the judges with their innovative vertical garden system, a sustainable solution addressing urban environmental challenges. Combining hydroponic and aeroponic technologies with smart sensors for precision irrigation, their system offers a scalable and impactful approach to improving food security, reducing resource consumption, and promoting green spaces in urban areas.
The FedEx Global Possibilities Award recognizes student-run businesses that demonstrate excellence in global connectivity through innovation, market expansion, community development, and sustainability. Team Tenacity’s vertical garden perfectly aligned with the competition’s 2024 theme, GreenOvation, by embodying the principles of environmental sustainability and forward-thinking innovation.
Team members Phumza Kadzunge and Mulalo Ranstwane shared their perspective on the win:
“Our project stands out because it integrates advanced technology with practical solutions to real-world problems. By tackling urban challenges, we hope to inspire sustainable living and community engagement. Winning this award motivates us to continue innovating and expanding our reach.”
